World Vegan Day: Everything You Need to know

World Vegan Day is held on November 1st of every year to advocate for the widespread adoption of a vegan lifestyle and to raise awareness about animals and the environment.


First of all, before The Vegan Society, there was The Vegetarian Society, which came at a time of health reform in the 19th century. As this diet grew in popularity, people wanted a way to distinguish between not eating meat and not eating any animal products. This is when The Vegan Society was founded.

Then, in 1994, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the new organization, along with coining the terms “vegan” and “veganism” World Vegan Day was created. Since then this day has got world recognition; moving away from just celebrating vegan day, to vegan week, and now vegan month.


This year, World Vegan Day will be held on Thursday, November 1st, 2018.

Although it’s not an official holiday, there will still be lots happening. There is no one set venue but rather World Vegan Day will be promoted through exhibitions, seminars, workshops, public debates, festivals, and local events. Some restaurants and cafes will even provide special plant-based menus or offer discounts.


Remember, World Vegan Day isn’t about consuming or spending money in the name of plant-based foods or products. Instead, it is about recognizing how far the vegan movement has come and the benefits of this lifestyle, not just for people but for animals and the environment.

Interestingly enough, millennials are the central drivers of the plant-based trend, though it’s bigger than just one generation.

  2. Try a new plant-based recipe or cook for a non-vegan
  3. Challenge yourself to go vegan for a week
  4. Spread vegan Love 
  5. Make a donation to favourite vegan charity
